The 2nd good thing about Northern Nigeria: Efforts to restore areas of historical interest in Kano

1000 years ago or so citizens in Kano built a wall around the city to protect the residents from invaders. There was a larger wall built around the 16th century and that wall went mostly to ruin. This first picture shows how most of the remains of that wall look -- kind of like the tall mud pile that it is. Within the last 5-10 years, the city has started rebuilding some areas of the wall because they would like to show off their city's history and also have some sites of interest to tourists.

There are interesting gates....

And walls with nice textured mud surfaces.

The wall was the first stop on our city tour of Kano.
