I'm a empty-nester mom of 3 and wife to an oil-company executive who is working on a project in Lagos, Nigeria. All many people hear about Lagos is bad stuff -- I'm here looking for the good in Lagos.

The 198th good thing about Lagos: a business name that made me smile
Brent pointed out this sign while we were driving around Osogbo. We laughed, shook our heads and wondered why they thought Desolat was a good name for a farm.

I suppose you pronounced it the way you would the word 'Desolate' which I agree is an odd name for a company. However, knowing us Nigerians the choice of name was based on the owner's own name. It is not uncommon to name businesses using some bits of our names. In this case, the name desolat could have been derived from the full name Desola Olatunbosun. Des derived from the first name and Olat from the the last name, hence Desolat. I hope this makes some sense :)
